Well, that didn’t go as planned. I missed the e-mail warnings and forgot to renew THREE domains! Thank God for grace periods. Now that they are renewed I just have to wait for the domain names to propagate through DNS so I can get the sites (and my e-mail) back online.

whew.

I never knew they offered grace periods. I always assumed once you expire it was fair game for everyone, and then you’d have to go through the hassle of trying to track down who bought the name.

It varies by provider, but ranges from 30 to 75 days.

Knowing this didn’t keep me from panicking, especially since the sites went offline and the address forwarded to the standard “want to buy this domain?” website.

I wondered why my e-mail was so quiet over the weekend!

I promise this is not political except that it happened between two political opponents:

In the current election, one of the early hopefuls let his campaign website domain expire. Another hopeful (well, one of his staff, I’m sure) snapped up the domain and redirected it to his own campaign site. I’m sure they didn’t just hand it back for free, either.

This was not between the two current candidates, but the now-GOP nominee was the one who took over the expired domain, which at the time I thought was funny.

That’s highly amusing!
